Employee story: Martin Mićović – System Engineer, NITES Utility Solutions

Meet Martin, our System Engineer, who deals with cyberthreats on a daily basis. In this brief interview, he speaks about his experience with NITES Group and how his passion for the job, the team work and the company’s support for professional and personal growth have kept Martin engaged and enthusiastic team member for four years already.

To begin, please tell us briefly what is your job and what your working day looks like?

As a system engineer focusing on cybersecurity, I monitor and analyze security logs and alerts on a daily basis. In addition to technical work, I work closely with development and infrastructure teams to jointly implement security standards and improve system protection.

How long have you been with NITES and how did the company attract your interest in the beginning?

I have been with NITES for four years. I was first attracted by strong commitment to developing security solutions and the stability that NITES has. What was especially important to me was how they value knowledge and initiative, as well as a professional approach that encourages growth and development.

What ar the most common challenges at your position – and what helps you to overcome them?

The biggest challenge is the constant change and evolution of threats, which requires quick and precise responses. It is crucial to always be one step ahead in order to prevent serious consequences from happening. What really helps me is continuous improvement, knowledge exchange with colleagues and a team approach where we share responsibility and experience, rather than working individually. This combination of expertise, cooperation and responsibility really makes a difference in our daily work.

How does NITES help you grow professionally and personally?

NITES gives me the chance to work on complex security projects and also provides continuous education, which allows me to develop technically and improve my communication skills. The support for learning and research is strong here, and that further motivates my personal and professional progress.

What are the most important factors to keep the motivation high and continually develop in the fast chaniging world of technology?

Crucial factors are the constant desire to learn and adopt new trends, and also a supportive environment that stimulates growth. It motivates me to be able to practically use new knowledge and to see its practical impact. Also, working together with the expert team and open communication, bring constant progress and the feeling that we move forward together.

What is your favourite part of your work – or working in this team?

What I like the most are the moments when the team works out a solution which efficiently neutralizes a security threat. That feeling that I have done something important is priceless. I appreciate the the openness to knowledge exchange in the team, and the fact that everyone can bring something to the table, no matter their position or experience.

Does the company support extracurricular project, hobbies or initiatives?

The company is very understanding when it comes to out-of-office interests, especially when they are connected with professional development. For instance, I could attend regional IT conferences with full support from the management. Those things really mean a lot, because they show that NITES values personal initiatives and is well aware how informal education and side activites 

How do you maintain your work-life balance?

Having a flexible job and the understanding of my colleagues help me balance my work and personal commitments. When work is intense, priorities are known, but there is also understanding for personal needs. I have learned to manage my time and energy better, which allows me to stay focused on work without neglecting my personal life.

How do you stay motivated and productive in challenging moments?

I tend to rely on planning and prioritizing tasks, which allows me to systematically solve problems without overloading myself. I also find motivation in colleagues who support me – we regularly have joint discussions and brainstorming sessions which bring new ideas and a fresh perspective on the situation.

How does the company support employee innovations and initiatives that can improve business processes?
