With a solid track record in software solutions, Dragomir decided to step his career up with NITES Group because of the company’s capacity to work on major projects. Find out how this story of growing together has developed to the present time.
To begin, tell us something about your professional background.
I was software developer in several companies. Before joining NITES, I worked in a different environment, which was IT in banking sector, focusing on support.
How long have you been with NITES and how did the company “win” you at the start?
I have been with the company since 2013, that is for 12 years. At that time, the company had a different business model, and there were fewer employees in Belgrade office. the beginning, it was Energy, but as the company expanded to other industries, I was a member of the newly created Telco division from the very beginning, which has grown into a large team and successful track record.
What were you looking for in a new job – and how did NITES seem like the right choice to you?
What attracted me was the company’s capacity to work on large-scale projects.
Tell us briefly what you do and how your working day looks like.
I am currently Solutions Architect and the Team Lead. Since we work simultaneously on maintenance and development of new modules, every day is different from the previous one, depending on the pace of each project. It starts with going through emails and checking the ticket platform, prioritizing daily tasks together with the Project Manager and other team members in a daily meeting, delegating tasks to team members and monitoring their progress.
What are the biggest challenges at your position – and what helps you to overcome them?
The most common challenges are the variety of tasks and shorter deadlines. Sometimes prioritization is more difficult to do, or priorities shift with clients and partners. We can overcome this by joint analysis, mostly in daily or weekly meetings, as well as by agreement.
How would you describe the atmosphere within your team and what do you like most about it?
Although every team member is different, we are all focused on the common goal.
How does NITES help you grow – professionally and personally? What has helped you here to become a better version of yourself in the work you do?
The company creates the opportunities for me to grow professionally through work on complex projects and continuous education. In the first years, I also participated in trainings. The culture of trust and teamwork in the company motivated me personally to be more proactive and confident in making decisions. Over time, as a team, we have put more focus on development activities, and the external training provided by the company has improved everyone’s specific skills. The flexible work environment has additionally helped me to balance my business and personal responsibilities, which makes me more productive and happier with my job. I am grateful for this support because it helps me grow every day both as a professional and as a person.
Is there a new role or challenge you took on at the company that was particularly meaningful to you?
When the company has undergone restructuring and the roles were introduced, I became a Team Lead.
What initiatives or flexibility within the company mean the most to you when it comes to work-life balance?
We can work from home, and the hybrid system has worked out pretty well. This flexibility often means a lot to organize family matters. In addition, the company regularly organizes team buildings and meetups of employees and their children on various occasions.
What’s your favourite part of your work – or working with this team?
My favourite part is when we receive positive feedback from the client that the job was successfully completed, whether it’s successfully testing a major functionality or successfully providing support that leaves the client satisfied.
How did you experience the hiring process at NITES? Did you like anything particularly or were surprised during the recruitment?
It was many years ago when the company was smaller and the hiring process itself was different. Today, from what I see, it is led by a professional HR team and focused on successful integration into the team with serious onboarding activities.
What do you value the most in personal and professional relations here?
Understanding of one’s and each other’s needs, diplomatic approach and peaceful atmosphere.
What do you enjoy in everyday work here?
The positive atmosphere, which is visible.
What does your work-life balance look like?
I manage to maintain that balance even though the family demands are increasing.
What do you think will be the key directions of development for our company in the coming years?
The project I’m currently working on will most certainly remain active, but will enter the less turbulent, maintenance phase. Apart from Telco, Energy projects will certainly be in focus.
Why do you think NITES is the right place for someone who wants to grow and work on meaningful things?
They will certainly have a lot to learn here and then pass the knowledge to others. Working on large-scale projects adds a lot to the professional path.
