ePrescription Platform Expands to Private Healthcare in Serbia

June 30, 2026

Private healthcare institutions in Serbia are starting to issue electronic prescriptions, which will enable both patients and facilities numerous benefits which are already in place in the public healthcare. The platform saves time, eliminates the need for paper documentation, allows automatic renewable prescriptions and, most importantly, prescriptions are automatically added to the prescribed medications list in the patient’s medical record, so the chosen general practitioner will have the complete therapy overview, regardless of the place of treatment. The advantages for healthcare institutions include better quality of service, automatisation and optimisation of workflow, along with saving time and resources.

ePrescription was launched in 2017 and was widely adopted by the public healthcare sector. Since the beginning, the platform saw over 752 Million prescriptions issued. More than 450.000 prescriptions are issued daily, or over 90 Million per year. The platform is currently in use in 3.000 healthcare institutions and by over 9.000 pharmacists. On such a large scale, the savings are measurable and substantial for everyone in the healthcare chain.

ePrescription for private institutions is the solution jointly developed by Pošta Srbije (Serbia Post), which leads the project of integrating private healthcare institutions, and NITES Group and medIT. The ePrescription system is already being progressively rolled out to private healthcare institutions, and users of the eZdravlje (eHealth) portal will be regularly informed on its progress.
