MDM data can help Utility Service Providers visualize, analyze, and efficiently monitor network, reducing outage times and costs while quickly and accurately verifying service availability, status and customer usage.
NITES MDM is designed to provide a common infrastructure for collecting meter read data (interval consumption and/or register read data) from adapters, perform standardized validation, estimation, provide an interface for editing meter data, and provide framed billing determinants for SDP’s.

NITES MDM FEATURES

With complete Network independence NITES MDM operates with all smart meter devices, data-concentrators and other meter readers, allowing it to be implemented in any of the existing systems and improve the services providers’ processes.
NITES MDM enables Single point of meter data management with all readouts being stored and processed in a single system, avoiding that way endless back office hours in searching for the data distributed among the different systems.

By implementing the NITES MDM, Utility service providers achieve improved customer services, as the product provides customers with timely notifications and detailed consumption info, preventing bill shock and engages them in the more efficient energy consumption, thus in general reducing CO2 emission and providing better energy efficiency.
State of the art features, emerging from the real-life usage of the system, have resulted with faster revenue cycle, that allows facilitation of the same–day billing, rapid revenue collection and avoidance of any customer disputes over issued invoices and services consumption.

This can dramatically improve the customers’ behavior and usage of the critical resources, that in result will improve the peek planning and reduce the unnecessary costs of using peek generation plants or electricity importing.

NITES MDM system is made to help utility service providers protect their revenues and analyze all potential non-technical losses that may occur within their network. Such capability of the system reduces on-field workforce, by allowing near real-time analysis of suspicious usage and allows detection of abnormal consumption trends.

To maximize the revenue protection, NITES MDM system features interoperability with Collection systems and unifies processing of meter data from multiple new/pilot AMIs, AMRs and other legacy meter reading systems without modifying existing billing processes.

NITES MDM PERFORMANCE

Bombarded with huge data volumes from smart meters, utility service providers need a high performance tool that can allow them to collect, analyze and interpret data in time and format understandable for multiple users. NITES MDM provides a tool which in less then a working day processes the processed data for almost a million of residential and business users. Such admirable performances are achieved by implementing the separate algorithms on a single (or virtualized) server.

NITES MDM PLATFORM

NITES MDM is designed as modular, distributed, web oriented application based on the SOA principles. It allows carrier graded guaranteed 99.999% availability of the product. In addition, NITES MDM platform is scalable to support more then 10 million of metering points, with intervals as frequent as every 15 minutes. The overall platform guarantees availability at the system services layer and at the data layer, allowing that way online and offline data accessibility and automatic backup, restore and data synchronization function.

NITES MDM COMPATIBILITY

NITES MDM, together with all other NITES products, is connected using the Enterprise Service Bus for genuine system modularity and interoperability with other systems. By introducing NITES MDM and NITES ESB to the current architecture, utility service providers gain possibility to analyze and use data collected and stored using AMI, that results in capability to provide time of use functionality, full control of energy consumption and predictive data analysis, to avoid and/or notify about outages, and allow increase in margins due to better customer engagement and significant energy saving.

BUSINESS VALUE OF NITES AMM WITH PROCESS AUTOMATION

NITES MDM allows full process automation and analysis of data, resulting with possibility to split the processes between generation and distribution service providers, making them independent and prepared for deregulation and making it possible, for them, to accurately measure network losses and differ technical from non-technical losses.
By using the advantages of full process automation and decentralization of mission critical process of data collection, NITES MDM enables creation of modern Utility Services Providers organization, which can then better plan peek loads and reduce operational costs with comprehensive reports about the current and past energy consumption.

Packed with state of the art features, including Validation Estimation and Editing (VEE), Network Data Analysis and Calculation of Billing Determinants, NITES MDM offers tools for precise data analysis and interactive features, which allow rapid interventions on data editing and acceptance of rejected data, all guaranteeing 100% accuracy of data prepared for export to billing systems of any kind.

HOT FEATURES OF NITES MDM

VEE

The purpose of Validation Estimation and Editing (VEE) is to ensure Meter Read data is valid and usable for further operations, particularly for processing of Billing Determinants.
NITES MDM provides highly adjustable VEE, enabling users to customize existing VEE rules and create new rules and estimation algorithms. Therefore, through NITES MDM, it is possible to configure VEE rules to comply with any type of metering code.

VEE is supported with wide range of flags, that range from flagging validation failures, determining category of failures, required estimation routines, to flagging validated data and estimation or editing techniques used in the process.

MDMS provides UI to manage configuration of VEE services, algorithms, rules and checks.

Three use cases are supported by NITES MDM graphical editing function:

Validate/Edit Single NVE Interval

User navigates to Service Request/Activity for NVE (Needs Verification or Editing) activities created by the validation and estimation processes. Graphical editing is launched from NVE activity screen and user verifies or edits the NVE interval data value. User comments can be added to NVE activity.

Edit Using Historical Reference Channel

User navigates to Service Request/Activity for NVE activities created by validation and estimation processes. Graphical editing is launched from NVE activity screen and user chooses to use historical data by specifying starting date for reference channel to verify or edit NVE interval data. User comments may be added to NVE activity.

Edit Using Class Load Profile

User navigates to Service Request/Activity for NVE activities created by validation and estimation processes. Graphical editing is launched from NVE activity screen and user chooses to use historical data specifying Class Load Profile Channel to verify or edit NVE interval data. User comments may be added to NVE activity.

BILLING DETERMINANTS

NITES MDM provides meter readings and billing determinants management to other Utility Service Provider’s systems. This process consists of two distinct operations:

  • Billing determinants framing – generation of daily billing determinants, and
  • Billing determinant processing – summation of daily billing determinants in order to provide billing determinant for a particular time frame

As the billing determinant processing completes a set of billing determinant data for a particular SDP, billing data export process loads the completed billing determinant data into the appropriate billing response files for export to the Billing System

METER DATA

NITES MDM is to be understood as the integration platform for all Utility IT systems. Therefore it is capable of storing any and all types of data specified by the client.  This functionality allows choosing readings that represent “best data available“ at a particular moment, considering the fact that it stores readings’ versions.
Meter Data Storage allows analysis of data based on:

  • Register Readings
  • Interval Readings
  • Interval Consumption Data
  • Audit and Control Data

REPORTING

Reports available in NITES system are based on the principle of multi-parameter user queries (static and dynamic). Static reports involve existence of reports created by predefined parameters. Dynamic reports involve defining additional user reports by the principle of multi-parameter choice and by different reporting periods (days, weeks, months, years).

All reports in NITES MDM are configurable and available based on three types of reports generation:

  • Reports based on scheduled intervals,
  • Reports triggered by events, and
  • Reports on demand by MDM’s system administrator.

SECURITY

Controlling who can update and access information is a critical component of NITES MDM. The relationships between SDPs and LDCs, AMI Operators, Billing Agents, and other interested parties, control not only access to data but also processing within the MDM.

MDM system security functions rest on three major elements:

  • User privileges – User, user role, and user privilege,
  • Logging – Tracking changes within the table, and
  • Audit– Session monitoring
